Curaçao enjoys return harvest festival parade

Local | By Correspondent July 4, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Seú (harvest festival) parade could be seen again for the first time in two years. Yesterday 23 groups paraded from Sta. Maria to Otrobanda in folklore dress. The number of participants was lower than usual. Nevertheless, the organization speaks of a successful edition.

There were no significant incidents along the route. However, the multidisciplinary team has issued three warnings for illegally selling alcohol. Two businesses were also closed.

Due to the corona pandemic, the harvest festival was canceled last Easter Monday. The seú groups have decided with the government to move the event to July 3. The day before, on July 2, Flag Day was celebrated. On July 1, Curaçao commemorated the Day of Emancipation. This day is dedicated to the abolition of slavery in 1863.
