Curaçao fishermen in Venezuela ask for help

Local | By Correspondent May 7, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Five fishermen who have been detained in Venezuela for over a year ask for help from the Curaçao government. The fishermen took two boats to the Aves Islands last year to buy fish there. Upon arrival, they were immediately arrested and taken to Venezuelan prison.

The two boats and a cash prize of 17 thousand dollars were then confiscated. Currently all five fishermen are in a cell measuring two by three meters under poor living conditions. According to them, the arrest is unjustified, and they are still waiting for a court hearing. Because they fear for their lives, they hope for help from the Curaçao government.
