Curaçao has not yet responded to apologies for the slavery past

Local | By Correspondent December 19, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - There is not yet an official response from Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas to the apologies for the Dutch slavery past. In a speech, the prime minister said he would wait for parliament's response.

Pisas does advocate equality within the Kingdom and hopes that the recovery program will generate investments.

This afternoon, State Secretary Alexandra van Huffelen handed over the written government response to the report Chains of the past of the Advisory Board Dialogue Group Slavery Past to the Parliament of Curaçao.

Van Huffelen did so after she attended the ceremony in which Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte apologized for the Dutch slavery past.
