Curaçao in cassation against same-sex marriage

Local | By Correspondent December 13, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government is appealing the court's decision to allow same-sex marriage.

The government says that opening up traditional marriage is against their principles and that the judge's ruling is not correct. Last week, it emerged in the appeal that same-sex marriage should be possible in Curaçao. The ruling is based on article three of the constitution, which prohibits discrimination.

According to the Curaçao government, however, there is no national or international law in which the opening of the traditional marriage is legally required.
