WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam is canceled this year. Fundashon Bon Intenshon says it was a difficult decision, but that corona is difficult to predict and it is not responsible for hundreds of people to come together. Perhaps the festival will continue in a modified form later this year.
The unpredictability and worrying behavior of the Covid mutations leave little room to responsibly plan and organize a gathering with the comings and goings of hundreds of people.
"The CIFFR organization is aware that many will be disappointed. After all, it is the third time in a row that the festival has been cancelled." In addition, the organization says that, in view of the strongly changed circumstances, the entire festival will be evaluated as an event.
Later this year, in modified form and on a small scale, festival-worthy and more educational films will be screened. "However, the design of such screenings must first be carefully prepared and coordinated with all those involved in education as well as with medical specialists and the theatres," according to the organization.
This year's International IFFR 2022 in the Netherlands will take place online from January 26 to February 6. The public is offered an online selection of films (available in the Netherlands) and IFFR Talks (available worldwide) via IFFR.com. The selection includes all films from the Tiger Competition, the Big Screen Competition and the Ammodo Tiger Short Competition. Later this year, these competition films will also be shown in Dutch theaters.
