Curaçao Introduces New Vehicle Inspection System and Online Car Registration

Local | By Correspondent January 8, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao introduced a new vehicle inspection system in 2025 and launched online car registration as part of broader efforts to modernize public services. This is outlined in the overview of achieved results presented by the Pisas III cabinet during the year-end review.

The new system is designed to make vehicle inspections more efficient, including inspections for newly imported vehicles. At the same time, motorists now have the option to register their vehicles digitally, reducing the need for in-person administrative procedures.

According to the government, shifting part of the registration and inspection process from service counters to an online environment is intended to speed up service delivery and ease congestion at inspection locations. The changes are expected to improve overall efficiency while reducing waiting times for vehicle owners.

The introduction of the new inspection system and online registration coincides with continued growth in the number of vehicles on the island. In 2025, nearly 13,000 new vehicles were registered, while more than 51,000 vehicles had undergone inspection by mid-November. The modernization of procedures is aimed at keeping these growing volumes manageable.

The measures form part of wider digitalization and modernization efforts by the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning, which is responsible for traffic and transport policy. According to the government, the new systems provide a foundation for further improvements in vehicle management and mobility services on Curaçao.
