WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao has officially recognized June 27 as Entrepreneurs' Day. This date coincides with the international celebration of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in 2024, emphasizing the significance of these businesses for both the local and global economy.
SMEs comprise 98 percent of all businesses in Curaçao, contributing 30 percent to the Gross National Product and providing 60 percent of employment.
The Association of Small Businesses in Curaçao (ADECK) plays a central role in the celebrations and activities surrounding this day. The association is dedicated to advocating for the interests, education, and networking of local entrepreneurs.
Gabriel “Boy” Magdalena, chairman of ADECK, stated: "Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of our economy. Their innovative spirit and commitment to excellence are essential for progress and creating opportunities within our communities."
The Ministry of Economic Development is working on various initiatives to support entrepreneurs, including training programs for different sectors and collaborations with financial institutions such as Qredits to make funding available.
