Curaçao Parliament Members Demand Urgent Committee Meeting on Regional Security After U.S. Military Action in Venezuela

Local | By Correspondent January 12, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Several members of the Curaçao Parliament have called on the legislature to hold an urgent meeting of the Central Committee to discuss the security situation and recent developments in the region. The request was made in response to the United States military action in Venezuela on January 3, 2026, which has triggered heightened concern across the Caribbean.

In a letter to Parliament Speaker Fergino Brownbill, the lawmakers wrote that residents deserve official information from the government about the potential implications of events in Venezuela. They highlighted key areas of concern, including border security, possible socio-economic consequences, and Curaçao’s level of preparedness for potential risks connected to the regional instability.

The parliamentarians are specifically requesting a committee session where information that can be made public is shared openly. They emphasized that they are not seeking a closed meeting involving state secrets or confidential security data, but rather transparency for both the parliament and the broader community.

According to the signatories, the situation is urgent and requires that the committee meet as soon as possible to provide clarity on Curaçao’s official position and readiness in the face of ongoing regional tensions following the United States’ operation in Venezuela. These developments have generated international reactions and raised questions about broader geopolitical impacts, including concerns voiced at the United Nations and by neighboring nations.

The lawmakers’ move underscores rising demand for greater public communication from the government regarding foreign policy and national security matters directly affecting Curaçao and the wider Caribbean.
