Curaçao Parliament to Resume Central Committee Debate on Security and Regional Developments

Local | By Correspondent January 14, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Central Committee of the Curaçao Parliament will reconvene Friday morning to continue discussions that were suspended earlier in the week. The focus of the meeting will be a session with Prime Minister Gilmar “Pik” Pisas on the island’s security situation and recent regional developments, particularly the impact of tensions involving Venezuela.

The session, originally started on Monday but temporarily paused, is expected to include official briefings on border monitoring, socioeconomic implications, and preparedness measures being taken to protect residents of Curaçao. The aim is to provide transparency and help lawmakers better understand the challenges and responses related to the evolving situation in the region.

The renewed debate comes after opposition parties MAN-PIN and PAR formally requested an open meeting so that accurate and current information could be shared with both the parliament and the wider community. Concerns have centered on how the government is responding to geopolitical developments, as well as issues such as migration, crime, and maritime and airspace safety.

The Friday session will be open to the public, and residents can follow proceedings through the official Parliament website at www.parlamento.cw, the Parliament’s Facebook page, and during the trial broadcast on radio frequency 102.5 FM. Those wishing to attend in person may enter the plenary chamber if they present valid identification to security personnel.

This upcoming meeting builds on a continuing debate in Curaçao’s political arena over how best to address the growing uncertainties tied to Venezuela’s instability and its potential effects on the island’s security and economy. Earlier coverage by Curaçao Chronicle detailed how Parliament has been balancing concerns about regional tensions with possible opportunities for Curaçao amidst the shifting geopolitical landscape.
