Local | By Correspondent January 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Justice Shalten Hato on Monday officially handed over two new robust vehicles to the Riot Unit (Mobile Unit) of the Curaçao Police Force.

The vehicles have been specially equipped to meet the operational requirements for crowd control and public disturbance situations. According to the Ministry of Justice, the specifications were selected to ensure the Riot Unit can respond effectively and safely during high-risk or large-scale incidents.

With the addition of the new vehicles, the police force is expected to operate with greater professionalism and improved working conditions. The reinforcement comes at a time when public order demands are typically higher, including during major public events and peak activity periods on the island.

The handover reflects continued efforts by the government to strengthen the operational capacity of law enforcement and to support police officers with appropriate equipment to carry out their duties safely and effectively.
