WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao has received 57,000 visa applications in 10 years. More than 13,000 of these were refused. This is stated in a report drawn up at the request of the Kingdom Council of Ministers.
Since 2015, most applications each year come from the Dominican Republic, more than a thousand. Haiti is in second place. In the past, it was mainly Colombians, but in 2015 the visa requirement was abolished for them.
Last year, the number of visa applications dropped from nearly 3,000 in 2019 to 453 in 2020 due to the Covid19 pandemic.
