WILLEMSTAD - Corporal of the Curaçao Militia was decorated for life-saving act because of his admirable and life-saving action on January 12, 2019 in a vacation resort on Curaçao. He kept calm when his family panicked because his 2-year-old nephew had been taken lifeless from the swimming pool.

Corporal Meulens did not hesitate for a moment and began to resuscitate his nephew. The emergency services found an alert, coughing toddler on arrival. The nephew was taken away by the ambulance staff and was released from the hospital after two days.

From now on, he may wear the Royal Navy honorary cord for these actions. Corporal Meulens was decorated with the honorary cord by the Naval Commander in the Caribbean, Brigadier General of the Navy Peter Jan de Vin on Friday 23 August.
