Strategic Acquisition Ensures Continuity and Local Employment
KRALENDIJK, WILLEMSTAD - Earlier today, the official transfer agreement between BOPEC’s court-appointed trustee, Mr. C.M. van Liere, and Dr. Yamil Lasten, Director of Curoil Bonaire, was signed. With this signing, the acquisition of BOPEC’s facilities by Curoil Bonaire has been formally completed.

The acquisition marks the preservation of a key industrial pillar for Bonaire’s economy. It also safeguards local jobs, which is crucial for the island’s socioeconomic development. Additionally, a remediation foundation has been established to oversee a safe and efficient environmental cleanup of the site, ensuring that future development of the area takes place in a responsible and sustainable manner.
Through this acquisition, Curoil Bonaire strengthens its regional position by modernizing and making its facilities more sustainable. The company continues to be a reliable partner in energy storage and distribution, and the purchase of BOPEC’s assets aligns with its strategy to reinforce Bonaire’s energy sector and expand its international operations.
In September 2024, Curoil Bonaire was selected as the preferred bidder for the acquisition of the facilities. Following an extensive due diligence and negotiation process, today’s signing represents a major milestone for both Curoil Bonaire and the people of Bonaire.
The successful completion of the deal was made possible through close and constructive collaboration between Curoil Bonaire, the court trustee, the Public Entity Bonaire (OLB), and other key Dutch and local institutions such as ILT and Rijkswaterstaat.
In the coming weeks, the company’s focus will shift to preparation for renovations and modernization of the facilities. Employees will begin introductory and training programs as part of the transition process.
This historic moment will be officially celebrated on November 24, 2025, during a formal handover ceremony to which stakeholders and members of the press will be invited. During the event, Curoil Bonaire will present its future plans for the terminal and outline the next steps in this strategic development.
