CZMCARIB intensifies cooperation with Coast Guard Aruba

Local | By Correspondent April 13, 2020

WILLEMSTAD, ORANJESTAD - Navy officers of the 32nd Raiding Squadron are deployed to support the Coast Guard on Aruba in carrying out its duties.

There was already ongoing assistance involving the deployment of ARUMIL soldiers on Coast Guard patrol vessels. On request, this assistance has now been expanded to include more officers and equipment to keep a grip on the maritime borders by the Coast Guard on Aruba.

CZMCARIB staff are on hand to support 24/7 monitoring of the coastline. For example, FRISC vessels and associated personnel are deployed to have extra physical presence at sea. Patrols on land are also being intensified. The intensification is a result of the measures taken by Aruba in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The maritime borders are closed for the transport of persons.

The measures should help to prevent the further spreading of corona infections. Maritime traffic to Aruba is therefore strictly controlled.
