WILLEMSTAD - Among all Caribbean participants, the Daily Meal Program Curaçao won with nearly three thousand votes in the first round of Appeltjes van Oranje. Second place went to Fundashon Ser'i Otrobanda Curaçao with almost 1200 votes. In third place was the Centro Famia Piedra Plat Foundation from Aruba with 827 votes.

All seven participants from the Caribbean will present themselves to the jury during the Pitch Day on June 17th.

On that day, it will also become clear which ten nominees will reach the final round and compete for an Appeltje in the finals. The results will be announced to the public on June 19th.

The project with the most public votes will automatically be among these ten nominees. Buurthuis Thuis in West in Rotterdam received nearly 5,600 public votes and is already one of the ten nominees.

The prize, for each of the three ultimate winners, consists of a bronze statue designed and made by Princess Beatrix and a cash prize of 25,000 Euros. The money can be freely spent within the objectives of the winning initiative.

Queen Máxima presents the three Appeltjes van Oranje at Palace Noordeinde every year. In jubilee years, King Willem-Alexander presents the award.
