Davelaar will not get his recount

Local | By Correspondent February 8, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - There will be no recount of votes, as they were cast in the primaries in Curaçao during the weekend of January 30 and 31. Humprey Davelaar of the new party KAS had asked for this.

Davelaar and his party did not reach the mandatory 789 votes needed to continue but were 43 votes short to participate in the elections on 19 March. According to the former PNP leader, many of his voters have literally signed their ballot paper, which has been declared invalid.

In response to Davelaar’ s request for recount, the Supreme Electoral Council states that there has been consistent talk from the outset of supporting lists without ever using the terminology "firm di lista" (signing lists).

In any case, the result of the primaries will be ratified today. Officially, 15 parties will participate in the upcoming elections.
