December sales tax revenue very high

Local | By Correspondent January 20, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Revenues from sales tax (OB) have never been so high as in December last year. Minister of Finance Javier Silvania announced this in a press release. December ended well above budget.

More than 45 million in sales tax was collected, almost ten million more than in December 2019. Income from payroll tax also rose sharply by four million compared to 2019. “In recent months, positive developments regarding tax revenues have been reported more often,” says Silvania. “The high numbers show that, in addition to the recovering economy, the various compliance initiatives implemented by the inspectorate, the recipient and the SBAB accountants are also bearing fruit.”

Account was taken of the depressing effect on tax revenues of the payment of the 2019 income tax refunds. In addition, the closing date for filing the income tax has also been postponed. The minister concluded that despite these aspects, which had a negative effect on revenues, the month ended very positively.

The outlook for January is also positive, according to Silvania. January is usually a month with relatively high tax revenues due to the payment of the OB on the sales of December and the payment of payroll tax on the year-end bonuses of various employers. The results of the baseline measurement will be presented next week.
