Defense preparing for arrival MQ-Reaper

Local | By Correspondent February 23, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - In preparation for the arrival of the first MQ-Reaper, an unmanned aircraft, the 306 Squadron has arrived on Curaçao to set up a camp. The camp is being built at HATO airport, the Defense of the Caribbean reports.

The MQ-Reaper is an unmanned aerial vehicle piloted by pilots in a cockpit on the ground. The aircraft contains sensors that can provide long-term observation both on land and over the sea and collect information without a pilot on board. The device can be operated worldwide thanks to satellites.

The camp consists of two ground stations at the airport. The Ministry of Defense chooses Curaçao as its home base, because the Reaper can already be deployed for Defense tasks in the Caribbean.

In the coming period, the squadron will mainly practice and train with the device.
