WILLEMSTAD - Dengue is re-emerging in the region. That is what Lanionel Tromp of the Ministry of Public Health announced this week. The disease is always present in Curaçao, but not many people have been infected in recent years.
According to Tromp, there are sometimes a few infections, but no large numbers. In the region, mosquito disease now seems to be spreading more and Tromp is warning about the risk in Curaçao.
Dengue is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti, also called yellow fever mosquiti, and it is common in Curacao. The Ministry has therefore launched a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of eliminating breeding grounds.
