Despensa i Pordon Exhibition Concludes Saturday at Het Curaçaosch Museum

Local | By Correspondent January 9, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The exhibition Despensa i Pordon will be on view for the final time on Saturday, January 10, at Het Curaçaosch Museum. To mark the closing, a final Meet & Greet with several participating artists will take place that morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Admission to the museum will be free during the closing event.

The exhibition received additional attention last week during the New Year’s reception at Fort Amsterdam, where six works from Despensa i Pordon were displayed at the request of Governor Mauritsz de Kort. In his address, the Governor referred to the exhibition and encouraged those present to visit, stressing the importance of developing a shared vision for the future of Curaçao.

Reflecting on Curaçao’s Future

Despensa i Pordon is a group exhibition in which artists reflect on the future of Curaçao following the formal apologies by the Dutch government for the slavery past. Using themes of forgiveness and looking ahead, the artists present their visions of Curaçao in 2035 and aim to stimulate broader public discussion about the island’s social and cultural direction.

A distinctive feature of the exhibition is its accessibility for visitors with visual impairments. Through the use of strong color contrasts, sound, and tactile elements, parts of the exhibition were designed to be experienced through touch and hearing, allowing certain artworks to be felt rather than only seen.

On the closing day, the exhibition catalog will also be officially presented. The publication includes images of the artworks, background information on the participating artists, and contributions from various authors.

Despensa i Pordon was organized by Curaçao Art and has been on display at Het Curaçaosch Museum since October 2, 2025.
