WILLEMSTAD – Starting in March 2026, a special edition of MediaLab on the Go will be launched in Curaçao, fully focused on digital safety for students in primary education. Under the program titled “Who Am I Online?”, specially trained instructors will visit schools to teach children in grades 6 through 8 how to navigate the internet safely in a creative and accessible way.
During the workshops, students learn how to deal responsibly with the internet, online games, and social media, with particular attention to children’s rights and digital safety. Through short videos, group discussions, and hands-on activities, students are encouraged to reflect on their online behavior. One key activity involves creating an offline avatar, helping them think about their online identity and what information they choose to share on the internet.
The lessons cover a wide range of topics, including the meaning of online privacy, how avatars can help protect personal identity, how to recognize fake news, and how to cope with peer pressure, bullying, and personal boundaries in digital spaces. The workshops are designed to align with digital literacy, citizenship education, and children’s rights, while actively engaging students and encouraging critical thinking about online situations.
The program will be offered in both Dutch and Papiamentu. Teachers will receive a lesson guide to support classroom integration, and participation in the program will be free of charge for schools.
With this initiative, organizers aim to strengthen digital awareness among young students and equip them with practical tools to stay safe and confident in an increasingly online world.
