WILLEMSTAD – An extraordinary act of generosity marked the Spigt DC Open 2025, where a golfer from the audience spontaneously doubled a charitable donation during the event’s prize ceremony. As a result, a total of 28,800 guilders will be donated to the Prinses Wilhelmina Fonds.
During the tournament, the winning team of golf organization Spigt Dutch Caribbean earned the right to donate 14,400 guilders to a charity of their choice. Moved by the moment, a spectator decided on the spot to match the amount, doubling the donation to 28,800 guilders.
Nearly one hundred golfers competed on the courses of Blue Bay Curaçao Golf & Beach Resort. During the award ceremony, one of the winners shared an emotional personal story about a family member affected by cancer. In response, the team chose to direct the donation to the foundation dedicated to cancer research and patient support.
The heartfelt account resonated deeply with a member of the audience, prompting the spontaneous decision to double the contribution.
Ageeth Termars, chairwoman of the Prinses Wilhelmina Fonds, expressed her gratitude for the gesture. “What a special Christmas gift and a beautiful way to close 2025,” she said. “Part of the funds will go to Boutique na Pechu, an initiative that supports people who are dealing with cancer.”
Organizers and participants described the moment as a powerful reminder of how sports events can bring communities together in support of meaningful causes.
