WILLEMSTAD - The price of eggs in Curaçao will increase after 14 years. This is reported by the Minister of Economic Affairs. A dozen now costs 4.88 guilders, in the future, it will be 6.36 guilders, an increase of 35 percent or twelve cents per egg.
The decision in the Council of Ministers was taken without the necessary figures being supplied by the chicken farmers. That was a requirement of the ministry. Last week they sounded the alarm because they would no longer be able to keep their heads above water.
When the price goes up is still dependent on the advice of the Legal Affairs department. But that can be done quickly, according to the ministry.
