Make a difference. Your contribution counts.
WILLEMSTAD - Every year regretfully, some children in Curaçao are diagnosed with cancer. Even though the care is well organized on the island, children are mostly sent to the Netherlands to receive the start of treatment in Europe’s largest childhood cancer hospital, the Princess Máxima Center. The life of these children and their family members are turned upside down literally in the blink of an eye. Not only the emotional and social situation of the families will be affected, but the financial costs associated with an extended stay abroad, are often overwhelming. For this reason, DreamRides Curaçao wants to make a difference by raising money for families being affected by childhood cancer. No matter how big or small, every contribution counts.
Cancer creates an instant crisis in the family, especially if the child needs treatment abroad. In a short and stressful period parents need to sort out work options, housing, travel costs for additional family members and the agenda of siblings staying behind. On the other hand, help is sometimes needed with winter clothing and travel insurance for additional family members and other large and small out of pocket expenses.

For this reason, the Curaçao resident Gerd Glaudemans together with the DreamRides Netherlands team will make an incredible bike ride of 822 kilometers and approximately 20,000 meters of incline over various mountains and passed cities through the Swiss and French Alps. With this fantastic effort, he strives to raise awareness and collect money for a childhood cancer fund, a special initiative within the Ronald McDonald House Charities Curaçao Foundation. All proceeds collected this year will go towards support for our kids with cancer and their families. Whether it is to support families, keeping them close to each other and the urgent care they need, or by providing the sick child going through a difficult time some moments of encouragement and joy to help them celebrate life too.
On Friday June 24th, Gerd Glaudemans will leave to Genève and on July 2nd, he will be back in the Netherlands. During this amazing bike ride he will also visit some Ronald McDonald Houses along the way to show his support to children and their family members that are going through severe illness.
