WILLEMSTAD - The growing number of drones is a major threat to the flamingos on the island. Curaçao Nature Conservation (CNC) reports this to the Dutch news site Nu.cw. The organization is concerned about the number of flamingos that are injured or even die from the effects of drones.
According to CNC, drone videos are recorded on a daily basis in the so-called no-fly zones. These are areas that the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority has designated as prohibited, because flying drones there would endanger aviation or nature. This also includes the salt pans in Jan Kok and Sint Michiel. The flamingos are hunted and sometimes even crushed under the drones.

No fly zone
According to CNC, many drone owners and tourists are looking for spectacular videos with flamingos to 'go viral', but this is at the expense of the safety of the birds.
