Dutch football players involved in illegal gambling business in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent April 4, 2022

AMSTERDAM, WILLEMSTAD - Several Dutch football players are involved in an illegal gambling company from Curaçao. It concerns the gambling site Edobet. The site has since been decommissioned, but it appears that several players have owned shares in the company.

Aaron Meijers and Tom Beugelsdijk, players at Sparta Rotterdam, would have had shares in Edobet, among others. Some football players did not own any shares in the company, but did bet through the site. The players can be fined according to FIFA regulations. Football players who were shareholders run the risk of being banned for years.

Last year, the gambling site was associated with a criminal organization of the Hague drug criminal Piet S. The criminal organization is suspected of large-scale drug trafficking. His son is said to have founded the gambling company in 2017.
