Dutch ombudsman wants to discuss the situation of Caribbean students

Local | By Correspondent July 20, 2022

THE HAGUE - The National Ombudsman Reinier van Zutphen wants a round table meeting about the situation of Caribbean students in the Netherlands. The recommendations of the 2020 report on this will be discussed.

The meeting is set to take place this fall. The Dutch ministries are currently preparing amendments to the law, so that Caribbean students will soon be able to obtain a Citizen Service Number (BSN) and access to Dutch health insurance. The steering group is also preparing a process to improve the connection with Dutch education.

The ombudsman emphasizes that other problems, such as the lack of housing, are not easily solved.
