Dutch Parliament discusses SOFA treaty

WILLEMSTAD - The status of forces agreement (SOFA) was supposed to be become no more than a quick adoption without debate in the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament, will nevertheless comes a public debate in The Hague.

Around 30 Members of the Dutch Parliament, including the Socialist Party (SP) faction, insisted on this. For Curacao, PAR faction leader Annemaria Pauletta traveled to the Netherlands to follow today's debate about this topic.

The treaty regulates the entry of American soldiers into the countries of the Kingdom for the purpose of training. Pauletta mainly looks at the economic benefits for Curacao and according to her the Curaçao citizens don't have to worry that an American military training may have something to do with the geopolitical situation in Venezuela.
