Dutch Parliament rejects motion to abolish testing requirement

Local | By Correspondent April 15, 2021

THE HAGUE - The Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament today rejected a motion to abolish the test obligation for flights from high-risk areas to the Netherlands and to waive the introduction of a quarantine obligation.

The motion was submitted by Pepijn van Houwelingen of Forum for Democracy. A second motion by him against the introduction of a digital green pass (the "vaccination passport") was also rejected. Forum for Democracy considers measures against the spread of the coronavirus (including vaccinations) unnecessary because it is only a harmless flu.

Sources in The Hague report that the cabinet will send the bill for the introduction of a quarantine obligation to the Chamber on Friday, with the intention of having it start on 15 May.

From then on, travelers coming from areas with the code red or orange must sign a statement upon arrival promising to go into home quarantine for ten days. Now that still has the status of an "urgent advice".

The Netherlands currently regards the entire world as a high-risk area. It is expected that the color designation will be reintroduced on May 15, allowing travel to countries with green or yellow areas.
