Dutch parliament wants stronger policy kingdom relations

Local | By Correspondent July 7, 2021

THE HAGUE - Undersecretary of Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops or his successor must have a stronger policy on Kingdom Relations. Member of Parliament Joba van den Berg (CDA) submitted a motion for this that was widely supported and adopted in the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament.

The motion followed after the Court of Audit found that there is insufficient coherence in policy, especially with regard to the Caribbean Netherlands. Other ministries that have to work with the islands must also ensure better coordination in the plans and budgeting. Two motions by Member of Parliament Sylvana Simons (Bij1) to impose fewer or no conditions on the liquidity support for Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten were rejected.
