THE HAGUE – Caretaker Prime Minister Dick Schoof has assured the leaders and residents of Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire that they can count on the Netherlands’ support during what he described as an uncertain period following the U.S. attack on neighboring Venezuela.
Schoof said he had personally informed Mike Eman, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, and Bonaire’s Government Commissioner John Soliano that “they and the people on the islands can rely on our support in this uncertain time.”
The caretaker prime minister shared the message on social media platform X, responding to the rapidly escalating situation in the region following U.S. military action against Venezuela.
“The cabinet is closely monitoring developments in the Caribbean and the situation in Venezuela after the U.S. attacks,” Schoof stated. “Security in the region is of great importance for Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire.”
The statement underscores growing concern in the Netherlands about the potential regional consequences of the conflict, particularly for the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, given their proximity to Venezuela. Dutch authorities have not disclosed any specific measures at this stage but emphasized continued vigilance and coordination with local governments.
Regional leaders are expected to remain in close contact with The Hague as the situation evolves, amid heightened security awareness across the southern Caribbean.
