Dutch representative attends the Coast Guard presidency for the last time

Local | By Press release June 27, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Representative of the Netherlands, Erwin Arkenbout, took part in the presidium of the Coast Guard on 23 June. The presidium is the general board of the Coast Guard, in which the Ministry of Defense, the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security and representatives of the three autonomous Caribbean countries also participate.

The Coast Guard is very important for safety on and around the islands. People regularly see the vessels and aircraft of the Coast Guard passing by. They patrol and inspect and guard the borders of the countries. Its duties also include rescuing people and inspecting environmental requirements at sea. The organization will be expanding considerably in the coming years, as part of the country packages that have been agreed between the Netherlands and the countries. The Coast Guard consists for the most part of young men and women from the countries. When they retire, they usually have a lot of experience and training, and often move on to other organizations that work to ensure safety on the lands and seas around them.

This was the last meeting Mr. Arkenbout attended. He wishes the organization every success in the future; he says it was an honor for him to serve on the presidency.
