Dutch soldier arrested for drug discovery naval base

WILLEMSTAD - A 33-year-old military officer from Peel and Maas in Limburg was arrested for the discovery of cocaine at the Parera naval base in Curaçao. He was arrested on Saturday. A day earlier the batch of drugs was discovered in a container. It was ready to be transported to the Netherlands.

The soldier is suspected of drug smuggling from Curaçao to the Netherlands. He will be brought before the examining magistrate on Wednesday.

The Marechaussee (Royal Police) had previously received information about possible drug smuggling via the military logistics lines and had started an investigation. The number of drugs that were intercepted was not disclosed.
