WILLEMSTAD – Two serious incidents occurred in the early morning hours yesterday on and around Cubaweg, involving a car crash and later a shooting, according to the Curaçao Police Force. No injuries were reported in either incident.
In the first incident, residents were startled by a loud impact. Upon investigating, they found that a driver had lost control of his vehicle, which overturned and collided with the wall of a nearby home. The driver then fled the scene on foot.
Police seized the vehicle for further investigation and are asking witnesses to come forward by calling 917.
Shortly afterward, unrest erupted again in the same area near a nightlife establishment on Cubaweg. During that incident, multiple shots were fired from another group at a moving vehicle.
The occupants managed to escape but were later fired upon again on Schottegatweg Oost near the RBC building. During that second shooting, the rear window of the vehicle was shattered.
The two occupants were able to flee once more and later contacted police on Caracasbaaiweg, where they received assistance from a patrol unit. No injuries were reported, and no suspects have been arrested so far.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of both incidents and are working to identify those responsible for firing at the vehicle.
