WILLEMSTAD - The economy of Curaçao is slowly recovering, according to the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS). However, according to the bank, the economy will grow less than previously expected due to inflation.
Due to a revival in tourism, the economy of Curaçao is slowly starting again. Earlier this year, the central bank forecast that economic growth would reach 6.6 percent, but it is expected to reach 6.1 percent.
According to the bank, this has everything to do with inflation and the decline in purchasing power. The prices in the shops have risen and the cost of living is increasing. This is mainly due to the war in Ukraine.
Although the war is not good for the economy, Curaçao has no major problems due to the liquidity support from the Netherlands. Thanks to these loans, the island can continue to import products.
