WILLEMSTAD - Teachers feel safer at school. This is apparent from the report 'The State of Education 2020' by the Education Inspectorate.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (OWCS) wrote in 2019 that a cry for help was issued about safety in schools in Curaçao. Following this cry for help, school safety policy and legislation have been developed.
Interviews with six school boards and a survey show that there is a pleasant atmosphere in schools. Problems with students is still an issue. The bottleneck lies with the external help that comes with it. There is a shortage of school social workers.
Despite the pleasant atmosphere, incidents continue to occur. Schools do not respond to an incident according to a protocol. Safety should be improved by establishing protocols, rules, and programs for schools. In addition, communication is also very important.
