WILLEMSTAD - UNESCO and Blackboard, through UNESCO's Global Education Coalition, together with its regional partner, the Caribbean Centre for Educational Planning (CCEP) and UNICEF will launch on Tuesday June 22, 2021 the teacher training component of the project UNESCO’s "Education response to COVID-19: Strategies for distance education and teacher training in the English and Dutch Caribbean" at 2 p.m. (GMT -5).

According to available data nearly 7 million learners in 23 countries and 91,710 teachers in the Caribbean region are or have been affected by school closures due to COVID-19.

Under this project, UNESCO and Blackboard will provide training to 54 Caribbean master trainers who will apply the cascade model and expand the training to 10,000 Caribbean teachers in SIDS.

Teachers will be trained in the use of online education tools, resources and interactive platforms to effectively engage students through online learning.

The project aims to build on the learning from the pilot initiative with Blackboard in 2020 to improve the training of teacher trainers, teachers and education leaders on digital skills and blended learning solutions. It will also improve access to professional development opportunities for teacher educators, teachers, inspectors and educational leaders through a coordinated regional approach to the development, delivery and maintenance of quality online learning resources.

Curaçao will also have its certified master trainers who have followed this course since 2020 participating in the training.

The project will be implemented in three cohorts for the period June to October 2021 starting on 22 June - 26 July, 3 August - 6 September and the last one is scheduled for 14 September - 18 October, 2021.
