Education sector meets about reopening schools

Local | By Correspondent January 6, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Education, Sithree van Heydoorn met yesterday with the education partners, the crisis team, and the policy organization of his ministry about the reopening of the schools.

During the consultation, epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth, crisis coordinator Lesley Fer and vaccination program coordinator Ashley German explained the situation and answered questions from the unions and school boards.

Today, the team together with Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas provided more information about the reopening of the schools in the press conference. The students of primary and secondary education are expected back in school on 17 January.

Initially, the schools were supposed to open today. Due to the new wave of contamination, it has been decided to keep schools closed for longer. This allows educational institutions to adapt the existing Covid-19 protocols. In addition, teaching staff can get a booster shot up to and including Saturday at the SDK complex in Brievengat.

The lectures at the University of Curacao (UoC), on the other hand, will take place virtually this month.
