Electoral Council welcomes discussion about electoral system

Local | By Correspondent June 22, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Supreme Electoral Council of Curaçao is also in favor of a discussion about the electoral system. The reason is this year's election results, in which remaining seats were ultimately the deciding factor.

In the current system, those go to the parties that get the most votes. For example, the current government only won 40 percent of the vote, but ultimately received more than 60 percent of the parliamentary seats, MFK 9 and PNP 4.

The electoral council advises to first map out all possible options, but they have no preference for adaptation or the need for it.
