Electricity and water tariffs up, slight increase in petrol prices

Local | By Correspondent January 28, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - From Tuesday 1 February, the rates for electricity and water on Curaçao will increase. Gasoline and diesel prices will also rise next month. Price regulator Bureau Telecommunication and Post (BT&P) reports this in a monthly press release.

The increases are mainly the result of a rise in purchase prices. After a sharp drop in international oil and refined fuel prices in the period from late November to early December 2021, substantial increases have resumed since the second half of December.

The current rate per liter of petrol is 2.31 guilders. The price at the gas station rises to 2.33 guilders, a difference of about two cents per liter. The rate for diesel will rise by about five cents per liter to 1.76 guilders.

Electricity and water rates will also rise next week. For example, as of February 1, customers will pay 64 cents per KiloWatt of electricity. The new rate for a cubic meter of water increases from 8.49 guilders to 8.58 guilders.
