WILLEMSTAD - Shaheen Elhage, the intended new Member of Parliament for the coalition party PAR, was not be sworn in yesterday by the governor. Elhage made this announcement himself.
The swearing in is only possible if a public meeting is called and that has not happened. Members of the opposition also indicated that they will not be present at any meeting to approve Elhage’s credentials. Elhage says that this does not matter to him and this mainly says something about the opposition members themselves.
President of parliament Anna Maria Pauletta states that if the opposition members continue to refuse, the government will go to court.
