WILLEMSTAD - Rumors had been going on for some time, but yesterday it became official: Elsa Rozendal is the new leader of the Democratic party or the DP as it is known. That happened yesterday during an extraordinary meeting of the party. Rozendal recently resigned as a member of parliament at the MAN party. Elsa's father, Boy Rozendal, was also leader of the party a few decades ago. In her speech as the new leader, she referred to her now deceased father. Two of Elsa's uncles also played an important role in the red party.
According to her, the DP is ready to return to parliament. She also does not expect any problems in the primaries to be held at the end of this month. All parties that were not elected to parliament in 2017 will have to get nearly 800 votes in support if they want to participate in the parliamentary elections on March 19. The DP was founded 76 years ago and is one of the oldest surviving political parties in Curaçao.
