Emergency advice about withdrawal carnival holiday
WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Education Sithree van Heydoorn requested urgent advice this weekend regarding the withdrawal of the carnival holiday. Following the advice, the minister will take a definitive position. That's what he announced during a media interview.
Education union DOEN objected last week to the intention to make up for lost teaching days during the carnival holidays. Due to the wave of omicron infections, Van Heydoorn has decided not to reopen the schools until January 17. The lost class days will be made up in the week from February 28 to March 4.
The Ministry of Education has also set aside 2 million guilders to eliminate the educational disadvantage caused by the pandemic.
