WILLEMSTAD - Residents of Curaçao are called upon to observe the rules extra carefully when they go to the polls for the parliamentary elections on the island.
The local epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth says in a video message that he understands that people want to exercise their democratic right, “but stay at home if you have complaints or if you have tested positive.”
Yesterday, 140 new infections were detected in Curaçao. There are currently 736 people who have been tested to carry the virus. Last week there were more than 150.
According to the epidemiology department, the rapid increase is mainly due to the British variant of the corona virus. The government has tightened the measures several times, but the numbers continue to rise.
Strict measures apply today at the polls. No gatherings and electoral processions are permitted, and curfews start at 9 PM.
