WILLEMSTAD - The installation of new artificial turf at Curaçao’s Ergilio Hato Stadium, part of Sentro Deportivo Kòrsou (SDK), is progressing as planned, according to a press release from the Fundashon Desaroyo Deportivo Kòrsou (FDDK).
The stadium's old turf was removed on Friday, with adjustments made to the field’s surface to improve the base layer ahead of the new installation. The upcoming turf features no traditional infill materials like rubber or sand. The new field will make Ergilio Hato Stadium the first sports venue in the Western Hemisphere to feature “Greenfield Pure PT” turf, certified by FIFA. This artificial grass closely resembles natural grass by 95%, reduces the risk of injuries, and meets FIFA's standards, the FDDK stated.
The renovation is expected to be completed by November 10, just in time for Curaçao’s national team to host Concacaf Nations League matches against Saint Martin on November 15 and Saint Lucia on November 18.
