Esperamos Supermarket and Coca-Cola open Recycling Center

Local | By Press release June 25, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao has a new Recycling Center. This time at Esperamos Supermarket on the Jan Noorduynweg. Everyone can deposit plastic bottles, trays, caps, and aluminum cans free of charge at this new location, so that they can be recycled into a new product.

The collection container in front of Esperamos Supermarket is made possible through a collaboration between Curaçao Beverage Bottling Company (Coca-Cola) and Esperamos Supermarket. These two companies have teamed up to help keep the island clean and help raise awareness among consumers that any plastic bottle or aluminum can be recycled.

“At Coca-Cola we think it is important to make people aware of the importance of recycling and how valuable an empty bottle, can or cap is. All our locally produced bottles are already made from 50% recycled material. Recently, our caps have become shorter, so that we use 20% less plastic and the bottle as a whole is also lighter. Now it is time to make it even easier for consumers to recycle,” said Myrthe George-Verhulst, Marketing & Sustainability Manager at Coca-Cola. She continues “we are proud of the collaboration with Esperamos Supermarket and hope that other companies will also contribute to a cleaner environment in Curaçao”.
