EU attention for aid to islands from the Kingdom

WILLEMSTAD - On Monday 27 April 2020, a high-level ministerial video conference of European tourism ministers on the impact of the corona crisis on the Union's tourism sector took place under the Croatian Presidency of the European Union.

Undersecretary Mona Keijzer of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate participated on behalf of the Netherlands. In a letter, Minister of Economic Development of Curaçao, mrs. Giselle Mc William, also on behalf of her fellow ministers of the Caribbean countries within the Kingdom, asked the Undersecretary to discuss with the European Union how our territories could also access the European recovery package for aid to third countries, namely the EU Global Response .

The Minister for Economic Development is very pleased to learn that during the presentation of the Undersecretary at the conference her request was made to the Member States of the Union.

Kingdom platform for the tourism industry

In the same letter, the Minister of Economic Development, in consultation with the Minister of Tourism of Aruba, made the concrete proposal to launch a platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices within the Kingdom, in accordance with an EU initiative.

This platform is a response to a joint approach to the consequences of COVID-19 within the tourism sector on Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the special Dutch municipalities, as well as in the Netherlands.
