Ex-policeman arrested in the Netherlands in connection with major drug robbery

Local | By Correspondent January 31, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The investigation team has again arrested two suspects for involvement in the major drug robbery from the Rio Canario police station. One of them is an ex-police officer of the Curaçao Police Force (KPC). The two men, aged 27 and 33, were arrested in the Netherlands.

In 2018, 600 kilograms of seized cocaine was stolen from the police station. In December 2021, three suspects were arrested in Curaçao. They are still in custody in the SDKK prison.

The investigation team and the Public Prosecution Service (OM) assume that the former officer was the mastermind behind the burglary. Prior to the arrests in the Netherlands, the examining magistrate in Curaçao had issued a detention order for eight days. This term has since been extended for both suspects. The investigative team will fly back today to hand over the suspects to the Curaçao authorities.
