Expansion of "Smart" street lighting in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent December 8, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Motorists driving on Emancipation Boulevard, along the Schottegatweg / Santa Rosaweg intersection at Zuikertuintje or driving towards Bandabou from Zegu will soon witness LED street lighting with smart technology.

On Emancipatie Boulevard, there are 315 streetlights, on Schottegatweg 86 and from Zegu to country house Papaya there are 115 streetlights. The lighting can be controlled digitally from a point.

Work on Emancipation Boulevard will start on Wednesday December 9 and will last two days. The left lane will be closed in both directions.

The work is carried out in phases in order to hinder traffic as little as possible.

The replacement of streetlights on the Schottegatweg and on the Weg naar Westpunt will start at the end of the week and at the weekend to spare the traffic as much as possible.

Two neighborhoods

Incidentally, there are already neighborhoods with "smart" lighting. Ser’i Domi has had LED street lighting that can be controlled remotely since last year. And part of Julianadorp is already equipped with smart LED. The two neighborhoods have a total of 550 lamp posts. The intention is that all 32,184 streetlights on Curaçao will receive smart LED.
