Extended stay for medical specialists

Local | By Correspondent August 28, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - During yesterday’s press conference, Minister of Public Health Zita Jesus-Leito announced that the medical specialists who are on the island to help in case of a corona outbreak will stay a bit longer. The specialists were initially flown in for three months, but because the number of corona infections is now increasing again, their stay has been extended.

It concerns 24 doctors who are ready if corona patients need to be treated in hospital. The Netherlands bears the costs for the doctors. There are currently 21 active corona cases, but none of them are in hospital.

Everyone is at home, is doing well for the time being and is being monitored, according to epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth.
